Juliana Leonel

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in oceanography from the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) and with a PhD in Chemical Oceanography from the University of São Paulo. Nowadays I am a professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. As an undergrad I began to study how organic compounds could contaminate the oceans, and it was then that I fell in love with the subject. Curiosity and the desire to learn have always been my driving force, pushing me into academia. However, I believe that the wonderful world of science and learning is too often trapped within the walls of universities. Therefore, I believe the dissemination of scientific knowledge is pivotal in bridging the gap between society and science. By making scientific information more accessible to society, it may help improve people's lives and enable more sustainable growth.
