I earned my degree in the biological sciences from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), where I worked on ecological studies of fresh water systems with an emphasis on planktonic communities (bacterioplankton) and biochemical cycles. Despite the extraordinary nature of such systems, I decided to venture into the ocean, landing at the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo (IO-USP). At IO-USP, I engage in research projects aimed at understanding the many secrets of the marine plankton community. I hope that as a part of this blog, I can provide readers with a little more information on the no-longer-mysteries of the world, for “the world and the universe is an extremely beautiful place, and the more we understand about it, the more beautiful does it appear.” -Richard Dawkins
